Alpha devlog #12 - Mining and Crafting


Hi there!

In this devlog I show what has been implemented in my colony simulator game "Too far, too late" for the mining and crafting gameplay.

The colonists are on the Moon and must build an outpost to survive. All the materials can be crafted from resources extracted from rocks and from the ground.

I show in detail the gameplay for the following mechanics:

  • Inventory management, to keep items organized in the base
  • Mining ores from rocks
  • Extracting resources from underground using the Deep Miner
  • Smelting ores into ingots with an Arc Furnace
  • And crafting all the required components for the buildings

One of the next steps planned before publishing a demo of the game is to implement the farming mechanics, with a hydroponic system to grow plants, produce food and oxygen for the base.

More fine-tuning will be necessary for the game to be ready for an open alpha version. Developing this game is a nice challenge, but it's one that I'm excited to take on! I want to create a game that will be challenging, with deep content and mechanics that will keep the player engaged for hours.
